Clayton Pyne
Race Driver

With an wavering focus on winning and an innate strength of mental focus, Clayton has made a habit of success throughout his racing career. Clayton started at nine years of age, as many racers do, in the familiar ranks of Go Karting. With laps, came experience, speed and victories. During his time in Go Karts, Clayton faced off with many of the sports current day stars. Names like Briscoe, Winterbottom, Caruso, Gurr, Dumbrell, Canto and others, were just the normal names on Clayton's grid sheet each weekend. During his years in Go Karting Clayton had some memorable battles. Whether it be fighting with Briscoe to the final corner of the final lap of the 1993 Australian Title (Clayton finished second to Ryan that year), racing against the World's best in Belgium in the 1996 world champs (finished 12th), leading the majority of the Margutti Cup in Parma Italy in 1997 (finished 3rd) or racing alongside then F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher for the TonyKart factory team at the Race of Champions in Monaco - Clayton has certainly achieved true success at the most elite levels along his motorsport journey.

In 1998, still racing go karts at the senior CIK level in Australia (Formula A), Clayton had an offer he could not refuse. That year Clayton was offered a drive in a speedcar with the notorious Smith and Woods race team. This team involved speedcar superstar Bob Woods and established engine builder Steve Smith. Most recently Steve Smith's midget won the notorious Chili Bowl race in the US, against the likes of Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Jason Leffler, Tracey Hines & Steve Kinser. The offer of this drive was something that Clayton could simply not pass up. Back then, the team often brought out guys like American Nascar ace Tony Stewart to drive for them in the U.S. off-season. So, Clayton set out on the speedcar super series, finishing within his first couple of races 2nd on the podium behind Steven Graham at Parramatta City Raceway. At this, father Ron really wanted Clayton to have a steer of his Super Sedan. Ron, himself a three-time Australian Super Sedan champion, certainly offered Clayton the best gear in the business. In only three drives in his father's super sedan, Clayton finished on the podium twice at Newcastle and won at Parramatta City Raceway; his first drive in a super sedan at that track. In doing so, Clayton, at just 16, became the youngest driver ever to win a speedway feature race in Australia. But, that was enough for Clayton, it was time to re-focus on what he wanted: a career in road racing.

In 2000, Clayton embarked on the NSW Formula Ford Championship whilst sitting for his Higher School Certificate. Clayton poled at the first round and won the majority of races that he finished but due to the HSC, had to miss certain rounds due to examinations and was therefore not ever seriously contending the title. In seasons 2003/4 Clayton raced in selected rounds of the National Formula Ford series as a privateer with many top ten finishes. But having gained a cooperative industry scholarship at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to study Business Information Technology in 2001, his academics pursuits sustained. Clayton recently graduated from UNSW with first class honours and is now in the employ of the International Business Machines (IBM) corporation as an Offering Manager at the Asia Pacific level. With his academic pursuits complete for now, Clayton returns to the track in the 2006 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
