Clayton Pyne - Getting Into the Right Gear for Bathurst
28/09/2006

CLAYTON Pyne is 'Getting into the Right Gear' for Bathurst with the support of national automotive retailer Auto One and leading car care manufacturer, Kenco, as he prepares for his first ever assault on The Mountain for the penultimate round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

Auto One's iconic '1' logo will adorn the bonnet of Pyne's #90 VX Holden Commodore and will be accompanied by the support of Kenco and leading steel supplier, OneSteel.

"We are very proud to be associated with Clayton. He is such a talented and promising young driver and we look forward to supporting him as he tackles Australia's most infamous race circuit next weekend," said Alex Bowler, General Manager of Auto One.

After his top-15 debut at Sydney's Oran Park in August, Pyne has been working hard to increase his fitness levels and learn the Bathurst circuit before next weekend's racing.

"I've never raced at Bathurst before- it's a track that deserves a lot of respect. I have watched a lot of video and went to the circuit last week to drive around in my road car and walk the track. There is much more rise and fall across the top of the mountain than appears on TV; and the track is a lot narrower!"

"We have developed the shocks in the car a little more over the break so we will have a better car than we did at Oran Park. We still expect to be slightly down on horsepower, which will be more obvious at a high-speed circuit like Bathurst. In saying that though, Mt Panorama is a circuit where you can achieve a good result if you keep out of trouble."

"It's a 44 car field for Bathurst and considering that it's only my second run, I am aiming to keep the car clean and stay within the top fifty per cent," said Pyne.

"We learnt at Oran Park that V8 Supercars is more of a team sport than any other category of motorsport that I've competed in before. Our round at Oran Park was great for the team- we learnt a lot, everyone gelled really well and I think that we've become a pretty slick team."

Pyne will hit the track for Round 6 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series on Thursday October 5th for the first practice session.

For the only time this year, you will be able to catch the racing across the weekend as part of Channel 10's telecast of the Bathurst 1000.
