Clayton Pyne tried and tested for his V8 debut at Oran Park
10/08/2006

LOCAL Sydneysider, Clayton Pyne, has been putting plenty of miles on his Holden V8 Supercar in the lead up to his debut in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Oran Park this weekend.

Pyne had another test day at Oran Park last Wednesday, completing 43 laps to further orientate himself with the 600 horsepower VX Holden Commodore. During the day, his lap times continued to improve, despite only running on used tyres. The Development Series debutante now feels that he is getting a much better grip on how to handle the powerful V8.

“We managed to get down to some pretty good times on the day- we were basically matching times with the two-car Perkins Racing team,” said Pyne.

“The point of our test day was to focus on the set-up of the car and for me to get comfortable in wearing a HANS device. We now have a much better feel on how the car reacts to the different adjustments. I still have a lot to learn about the car but I certainly do feel comfortable now and I believe we really have pulled together a great team,” said Pyne

Clayton Pyne Racing benefited from the experience of their newly appointment Chief Engineer, Ric Kemp, who has worked with V8 Supercar teams such as Tasman Motorsport and Gibson Motorsport, as well as household-name drivers, Craig Lowndes and Cameron McConville.

“Ric gelled with our team extremely well and certainly found some immediate areas to improve. With the right skills, a well measured attitude and now the learned experience inherent within the team, we are well positioned to make Oran Park a very productive debut for the team,” said Pyne.

Pyne has modest goals for his first round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

“Our first aim is to try and qualify in the top 50 per cent. After that, we would simply like to finish every race and walk away with a full bank of data and plenty more experience,” concluded Pyne.

Pyne first hits the track for practice on Friday at 9.05am. You can catch all of the action from the round either at the track, or on Channel 10 on Sunday 20th August, from 2.00pm.
