CLAYTON Pyne is set to return to the track this weekend, for the first time since 2007, at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway for Round 2 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
Pyne is excited to yet again have the support of national automotive retailer Auto One & Australia's No1 helmet painters Race Art, but will also don the livery of leading software distributor Express Software, Carline Mufflers - the fastest growing exhaust replacement group in Australia and United Oil Synthetic Specialists.
Express Software's co-founder and Managing Director, Donald Graves said today in releasing the news "we are delighted to be supporting one of V8 Supercar's aspiring young talents in Clayton, as he enjoys his first hit-out in 2008 at Wakefield Park Raceway".
After bagging two top fifteen results at the opening round of the Series in 2007, Pyne will again make his return to the track this weekend with Novocastrian based team Race Image Motorsports. While based in Sydney's Crows Nest for his career with IT giant IBM, Pyne was born and bred in the Hunter Valley Wine Region of Cessnock.
Pyne, having raced against many of the sports young guns as a go-karter, has mixed it with the best in the world & has proven himself when on equal footing. Pyne graduated from the same crop that produced the likes of Whincup, Winterbottom, Briscoe and Courtney. He even raced on the streets of Monaco with Michael Schumacher for the TonyKart factory team in 1996 and finished third in one of the world's most prestigious Junior go-karting races, the Andrea Margutti Cup.
Since then Pyne has juggled both university – graduating in 2004 with first class honours in business and IT – and establishing a career with IT heavyweight IBM, with his motor racing endeavours. Given the fervour and focus of the past few years, it's with an air of relief that Pyne finds himself back behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar.
"I am ecstatic to be back in the seat, it's been far too long. This is my passion in life, it's ultimately where I want to be. We worked very hard in 2007 to put a package together for this year. We didn't make the first Round, so it's great that we are able to get back-on-track so to speak by gridding up at Wakefield Park this weekend".
"I really have to thank Don Graves at Express Software, the Carline group, Tony Edser from Race Art, Auto One and the team at United Synthetic Specialists – with their support I am able to get back behind the wheel of the same car I drove at Adelaide a little over a year ago".
Pyne's expectation for the weekend is, as always, quite measured.
"It's no secret I've been out of the seat for a while, but I am really looking forward to this weekend. Having driven the #61 Race Image Motorsports BA Falcon previously, knowing the Wakefield Park track along with keeping up to speed on my fitness program, I am more than comfortable slotting straight in come Saturday morning."
