The 2006 CPR Partner Ride Day was greeted with warm, sunny skies over Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway on Tuesday. On-hand was the entire CPR contingent as well as Pyne's key supporters for the 2006 season.
Ben Stockwell, Manager & Senior trainer of Energise Personal Training Services (Clayton's personal trainer), hosted several key clients enjoying the day thoroughly: "We had a great day today! The guys I brought along thoroughly enjoyed themselves with all of them just blown away by the forces inside the car, the speed & braking performance and also the coordination it takes to drive one of these cars fast!". Energise client & Mayor of Cantebury Robert Furolo agrees, "It was a real pleasure to be taken for a ride around the track today. I leave with, let's say, a much improved appreciation for what these cars are about and what the drivers go through lap after lap after lap".
"It's been a pleasure to be a part of the CPR family this year", Ben elaborated. "Clayton & I have formed a great business-to-business partnership which we are extending into season 2007. It's over these summer months where we will work hard on Clayton's fitness with the opportunity to simulate similar conditions in our training sessions to what he experiences inside the car. We've lifted Clayton's fitness significantly this year, but as all driver's will tell you, heat tolerance is the key to surviving extended time in the microenvironment of a V8 Supercar".
Auto One, whose iconic "1" logo adorned the bonnet and rear guards of the #90 VX this year, also hosted some high performing employees and customers. Alex Bowler, General Manager of Auto One, has been very happy with their foray into the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series via Pyne's Accelerated Enterprises team: "We are very proud to be associated with Clayton. He is such a talented and promising young driver. Our partnership has certainly created great synergies and outcomes for both Accelerated Enterprises & for Auto One".
Geoff Ongley, owner of Newcastle based Adept Information Technology was likewise impressed, as many were, by the braking performance of a V8 Supercar: "When I thought we should be braking he was still on the gas for a good 2-3 seconds. These cars just stop so phenomenally well!". "That was crazy!", Geoff exclaimed as he climbed out of the race car shaking his head with a very wry smile.
As the curtain now falls on the 2006 season, Pyne has his sights set firmly on season 2007. "We are looking to build on the great partnerships we have forged this year to ensure we can take the next step in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series in 2007. Everyone in the team has the sole focus right now of creating & fostering the very best opportunity to compete at the front of the series next year. We have had some solid results this year and we've certainly shown speed. After running the last couple of rounds in our VX I have the confidence to run at the front next year given the right opportunity."
However, Pyne realises as all young V8 Supercar drivers do, that there are many elements to a fast race team. "It is certainly very easy to get dismayed regarding what it takes to get a competitive seat, but that is our challenge. I love it & I wouldnt be here if that challenge wasn't what fuels my desire to 'make it' regardless".
